Unemployment Line
By: Dennis Parks
Verse 1:
Prices are rising
Jobs are hard to find
How can we survive when the economy’s falling
Money’s getting low
There’s no place to go
So someone please help me
Chorus:
Losing my mind
Tryna make it on my own
Life’s going bad
Make me feel so alone
Trying to keep head up
But it aint working
Standing here wondering
In the Unemployment Line
Verse 2:
Need gas for my car
Need food on the table
It’s like sailing on boat
But it’s hard to stay afloat
Time is winding down
People hurting all around
Why is it not making sense
Chorus:
Losing my mind
Tryna make on my own
Life’s going bad
Make me feel so alone
Trying to keep head up
But it aint working
Standing here wondering
In the Unemployment Line
Bridge:
Hard for person to live in this world
Making our lives being so much worse
Stimulus Plans aint helping out
These jobs are going out
Is it just time for us to give up now
Desperately waiting
For a breakthrough to come
Hard to be here with no job, no cash, no food, no home
Chorus:
Losing my mind
Tryna make on my own
Life’s going bad
Make me feel so alone
Trying to keep head up
But it aint working
Standing here wondering
In the Unemployment Line

Machines… Are They Increasing Unemployment? Or Nah?
Jobs
in the U.S. have been lost this year, why is that? Expert John Clint says
machines that are being placed in jobs are making unemployment higher than
before. Machines seem to run faster than humans and gets the job done in
seconds, but how is this helping the people who losing these jobs to
technology. Technologies such as
artificial intelligence, machine learning and software automation applications
will increasingly enable computers to do jobs that require significant training
and education. College graduates who take "knowledge worker" jobs
will find themselves threatened not only by low-wage offshore competitors but
also by machines and software algorithms that can perform sophisticated
analysis and decision making.
Manufacturing
workers who work at the jobs that build things may be threatened the most
because mostly all manufacturing jobs have machines that do most of the work. Workers
may have to push themselves to the limit to compete with technology but may
fail in the process. As unemployment rises and wages fall, consumer spending
will likely fall because of unemployment which will have affect on most of the
companies because of money that isn’t coming in. How can we survive this
situation? How is technology helping unemployment? As technology rises in jobs,
workers may find themselves in the bleak of unemployment.

Dear Mrs.
Coleman
Hello, my
name is Tim Blake; I am attending the Columbia Prep High School, which I’m a
junior there. I am writing this letter because I am doing an assignment. I have
to pick an expert on our topic and ask a few questions so we can understand
more about it. So if it isn’t a bother, I would like to ask you about children
with unemployed parents.
The question
I want to ask is how are children affected by their parents being unemployed? I
have tried searching for information about this, but found little info on this
topic. The Information I found out here is that in 2011, Unemployment averaged
9.0 percent, leaving 12.7 million Americans out of work. This is a
distressingly high rate. Also the children are impacted by the recession we are
in, even though this country is getting better. There are many American children
in poverty because parents lose their jobs. Parental Job loss can harm a kid in
a number of ways, like a sharp declines in family income which may cause less
buying of foods, which can cause a kid to starve, can affect a child’s future
goals, like children who are in poverty may not be able to get into good
schools, and most importantly, cause parents to harm their child in if the
parents have undergone psychological distress because of being unemployed. Also
there are about 6.5 million children under the age of 18 living in families
with an unemployed parent and also 1 million of these kids are from California,
which has the second highest rate of unemployment.
Mrs. Coleman,
I would appreciate if you can help me with this topic by supplying me with more
information about children with unemployed parents. This would help me in my
further assignments, too. If you would like to contact me about my topic; my
email is blake.tim36@gmail.com or contact me by phone at 1-456-4789-2468.

Diary Entry
March 13,
2014
Dear Diary,
Unemployment
has been a real pain lately. In Greece, the unemployment rate rocketed to 27.7
in November. Really this is 10 times more than the United States and more than twice the euro zone's record-high
average percent. On www.nytimes.com, the unemployment stood 12.1,
a high level rate in unemployment. I feel like that even though Europe is
struggling from unemployment. The United States is recovering but may still be
a problem but it is just not the top idea as it was in the past years. So
basically unemployment is being a problem in the world and needs to be dealt
with. Some people with degrees are finding a hard time to find jobs as well.
Maybe a reason for unemployment is less jobs being offered to people. I feel;
like there should be more jobs in the United States and Europe. Unemployment is
costing government money and really it needs to be prevented. As of right now,
I want to see a change in employment and the rate also.

Short Story
Topic: Unemployment
One day a man named John Reed, who
was an African American (Appositive), was an experienced worker who worked
at Steel Corp., and always got the Job done every time he got to work. That
morning when he got to work, a big argument was heard through the halls of his
job. He ran toward his boss’s office and opened the door. When he opened the
door, he saw people arguing and throwing things at their boss.
“What is going on here?” John asked.
A man who stood beside him looked towards him with an angry look, “The
boss sold the company and now they are talking about getting rid of us.”
John walked through the crowd of people who were all angry about
this. John looked at his boss with a disappointed look. The boss saw him and
jumped down from the table he was standing on.
“Oh John, am I glad to see you, how are you doing?” the boss said
with a nervous tremor.
John gave the boss an angry stare. “Don’t try to change the subject.
Why did you sell this company? Why did you let them fire all of us?”
“O’ John (Apostrophe), now this is just business, this-(Aposiopesis).”
The boss said as he was interrupted by John.
“Well I hope you are happy,” John said as he walked off.
As three months passed, John was unemployed. He had no money to buy
him nothing. All he got was unemployment checks that he barely could cash. In
the year of 2010, in November, unemployment has reached a rate of 9.8%. People
said that mostly minorities are the cause of the unemployment. John was
devastated, and couldn’t bear this burden of being unemployed. John tried
searching for jobs all around his city and his state. The only thing he didn’t
have for some of the jobs was his college degree; he never finished college
because of money troubles. John had just given up on his life and just lived on
the streets.
“Well although I’m unemployed
and out on the streets, I have faith that a breakthrough will come (Antagoge),”
John said while he was looking up at the bright
sky (Assonance).
A year had passed and John still was unemployed, and had no one to
call to help him. As John was walking, he spotted a flyer that said “Help
wanted. Need an experienced worker.”
“I can’t believe it- maybe
this is my breakthrough (Anacoluthon),” John said.
That day John went through the doors of the place that the flyer
came from. He walked towards the desk where an assistant was sitting. The
assistant looked up at him with a disgusted gaze.
“I am here for the job opening,” John said.
“Ok… the boss will be with you shortly,” said the assistant.
A few hours had passed and the boss came to see who was next for the
job. He looked and saw a man with a shaggy beard and a nappy afro.
“Is this the last one?” the boss asked.
“Yes sir.” The assistant replied.
The boss walked up to the man and introduced himself. “Hello, my
name is tom Bradley.
John stood up and shook his hand. “Nice to meet you; my name is John
Reed.”
John and Tom went to the office. After 3 hours, Tom told John that
he will be in touch with John. John looked up and nodded. After 2 months had
passed John was sitting on the sidewalk until a yellow cab pulled up. A man
with a black trench coat ran up to him.
“Are you John Reed?” the man asked.
“Yes I am,” John answered. “You must be Tom Bradley from that job.
“Yes, I’m glad you still remembered, I just came to say you got the
job John,” Tom said.
John’s eyes widened and he jumped around with joy.
“Thank you, Thank you,” John said happily.
“You are welcome, work starts tomorrow,” Tom said.
John was so happy that he couldn’t do nothing but cry. Tom shook
John’s hand and left. John walked away in happiness.
“No more unemployment,” John said walking into the sunset.

Rethorical Devices
- Parallelism
Is
a recurrent syntactical similarity; It expresses similarity to show that the
ideas in the sentence are equal in importance.
Ex.
She

- Parataxis
A
successive independent clause with coordinating conjunctions, or no
conjunctions.
Ex.
The

- Parenthesis
A
form of hyperbaton, and consist of a word, phrase, or whole sentence inserted
as a aside in the middle of another sentence.

U.K v.s. U.S.
The U.S. and Rome are alike in many ways. One reason why the
U.S. is like Rome is our government setup; we have a senate like Rome; the word Senate came from Rome. Another reason
why the U.S. is like Rome is our security. Just like
Rome's soldiers being stretched throughout Hadrian's Wall, our army is strong
and is spread out, or scattered, over Iraq and other areas. Also Rome had a
huge mass of land it controlled. Like Rome we
control a huge area of land. We also live in opulence like Rome did centuries
ago. Like Rome, we have all the characteristics and lifestyle that makes us
compare to them.
In contrast to Rome, however, the U.S. will never fall like Rome
did. Our technology is constantly growing and evolving throughout the years.
Our industries also grow; we have jobs and transportation, and also we make
products that continue to be important in our lives. We are now developing high-tech
weapons to protect ourselves from enemies and other dangers. Our country also
is becoming more and more dominant each passing year.
In comparison to Rome, for instance, if the U.S. ever does fall, as a
result, we will regress back to a traditional economy like Rome did when it
fell. We will not have any name brand clothes we wear like Polo, Nike, or
Aeropostale. Our lifestyles will change from having nice products to making our
products from wood or grass. We won't be living in big, extravagant houses
anymore; we will be living in mud huts like the Anglo-Saxons. Our civilization
will also go back to a point of hard labor and hunting and fighting for our
survival.
